During the 5th session of the Widening Impacts Spring 2025 Webinar Series, held on March 28, 2025, CARBONICA’s Story was presented. This session focused on the EU-funded CARBONICA project, which aims to establish the CARBONICA Excellence Hub by connecting the innovation ecosystems of Cyprus, Greece, and North Macedonia. The primary goal is to enhance their Technology Readiness Level (TRL) as service providers, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Earth Observation (EO), in situ data, and digital agriculture in the field of carbon farming. The project’s main objective is to provide access to excellence for all relevant stakeholders within the Quadruple Helix (QH) of the World Class (WC) community. It also aims to strengthen regional innovation capacity through a long-term joint Research & Innovation (R&I) strategy in carbon farming. Agriculture, a crucial economic sector in the EU, is also a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. To address this, the EU is committed to reducing agricultural GHG emissions.
However, achieving success in this area depends on the synergy among all stakeholders within the Quadruple Helix model, which integrates science, policy, industry, and society. In this context, the CARBONICA project will connect the innovation ecosystems of Cyprus, Greece, and North Macedonia to foster collaboration and build their capacity as service providers. The project will also boost regional innovation by utilizing advanced technologies such as Earth Observation, in situ data, and digital agriculture. Ultimately, CARBONICA will provide stakeholders with access to excellence and strengthen regional innovation capabilities.
