On Friday, September 27, 2024, the INNO2MARE project captivated visitors at the European Researchers’ Night (ERN) at the Rog Centre in Ljubljana. The event, part of a European initiative to promote science, provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the latest research achievements and innovations in the maritime sector. As part of the INNO2MARE project, two of the three key pilot projects were presented, offering insights into the future of maritime technologies.
The first pilot project presented was the Digital twin with AI for sustainable and efficient energy management, led by DIGITEH in collaboration with ISKRA d.o.o. Visitors observed how artificial intelligence, with the help of a digital twin, can analyze data in real time, predict energy consumption patterns, and thus improve the efficiency of energy systems. The presentation highlighted the great potential of these technologies to achieve sustainability goals in the maritime sector and beyond.
The second pilot project, which also drew significant attention, was Autonomous shipping technology supported by AI, led by the Faculty of Informatics and Digital Technologies at the University of Rijeka. The demonstration of the autonomous management system showed visitors how AI and automation can enhance navigation, reduce human errors, and increase maritime safety. The presentation of these advanced technologies received much praise, as it provided insight into the future of maritime transport, where autonomous vessels will play a key role.
Both pilot projects, the Digital twin with AI for sustainable and efficient energy management and Autonomous shipping technology supported by AI, offered visitors a glimpse into the most advanced technological solutions that will soon shape the maritime sector. These projects represent an important step towards greater sustainability, safety, and efficiency in an industry that plays a crucial role in the global economy.
The European Researchers’ Night in Ljubljana brought research ideas and technological solutions closer to the wider public, while also inspiring young scientists and future researchers to continue building on these foundations. The event at the Rog Centre proved that innovation and scientific solutions are essential for sustainable development, especially in the maritime sector, where these achievements will contribute to greater safety and efficiency on a global level.
